This is a NEW group meeting in the Victory Hall, if we are not out visiting gardens. We all have a common interest in gardening, gardens, the environment and growing flowers and/or vegetables. We have guest speakers, visits to local open gardens, as well as our own gardens. Meetings will usually be on the first Tuesday of the month, but join the email list as dates may alter.
In 2019 we have enjoyed two garden visits and two talks as an introduction to Temple Sowerby Gardening Club, and based on their success, we have planned a programme of talks and garden visits for 2020 which will take us forward to September; talks for the autumn are in the pipeline. It will be important to establish a core membership in order to fund future events, but at the same time we would like to appeal to non-members who might be interested in some of our talks. Most speakers make a charge and we have the cost of hall hire to factor in too, so we will need to build up a ‘nest egg’ to support the programme we have organised.
We are proposing the following:
There will be an annual membership fee of £10 per person, payable in the New Year and prior to the first meeting in February. This will entitle members to:
• Free entry to all talks organised by the club, we hope to have six in total
• Priority access to garden visits where there are restrictions on numbers
• Regular updates on events and outings (this will apply to all those on our mailing list)
Membership fees should be paid to Jenny Higgins from January, £10 cash please. Do use the attached form or provide your details on an envelope and return to Bark Mill, Temple Sowerby.
We have a talks planned on “Community Gardening”, “Some Favourite Northern Gardens and Hints on Garden Photography” and more. There will be free entry for all members. Non-members will be very welcome, £3 payable at the door. We hope that the talks arranged will be of general interest to gardeners, encompassing a range of subjects. Tea and coffee are included. There will be a raffle at each meeting in order to boost funds; tickets will be £1 each.
We have visits arranged to Chapelside, Larch Cottage, Hazel Cottage and Deer Rudding, between May and August, all within about 45 minutes of Temple Sowerby. Priority for these visits will be given to members, but where there is a minimum number required and not enough members sign up, places will be made available to non-members. Entry to the gardens will be paid directly to the owners by each visitor; details of these charges will be made available.
We plan to car share for these visits, details to be arranged prior to each event. Passengers may wish to contribute in some way towards drivers’ petrol costs.
We would welcome suggestions and comments to help us with further planning.
