Welcome to Temple Sowerby, Cumbria.

“Temple Sowerby has rightly been known as the Queen of Westmorland Villages for several hundred years, it’s sandstone buildings clustered around a beautiful village green, ringed by tall trees. The village is located 6 miles from Penrith which is on the West Coast mainline and close to the M6. The busy A66 now bypasses the village which is peaceful once more with many views little changed over the years. For visitors the village has a pub, a hotel and bed and breakfast as well as being close to the National Trust site Acorn Bank

This website is intended to share details of our beautiful village and the many activities that it’s residents enjoy.”

Village Events and Clubs have been cancelled or postponed due to the Covid 19 outbreak.  Please check with the organiser for more information.

Fundraising Opportunity

As a number of you will be aware I have been processing a collection of old glass plate negatives of the village given to a resident by the Kings Meaburn Parish Clerk some years ago. They date from the 1890s and show some fascinating views of the village and its inhabitants in late Victorian times.  I have loaded reduced resolution images of the finished articles in the attached PDF file.
With the lockdown preventing us from hiring out the Hall or holding fundraising events for the foreseeable future, we thought we might be able to generate some funds by incorporating a selection of the images in a 2021 calendar or a photobook and selling these to order.
So… by the end of the May please would you:

–          Have a look at the images
–          Select your favourites
–          Let me know whether you prefer the idea of a calendar or a photobook – NB: a caption giving a description of each full resolution (highest quality) image would be incorporated in both, but not inside the body of the image as in the attachment – the copyright watermarks would also be removed.
–          Send me a list of your favourites (just the image numbers will do) – your top 12 for a calendar – your top 20 for a photobook

According to the likely demand  we will then get quotes for production of both a calendar and a photobook and decide on the pricing (to include a reasonable markup to generate some funds).
These are also only initial ideas – other possibilities if people are interested are mounted prints, greetings cards, coasters, mugs, etc.
